Great News for Collins School

Posted Monday, February 6th, 2012 by Mrs. Tosch

Wow! Congratulations, Team Collins! Today we were the proud recipients of the Illinois Academic Excellence Award for the second consecutive year.

The Illinois Honor Roll celebrates the accomplishments of Illinois public schools that are providing high quality education for all their students. To achieve this award, schools must meet the following criteria:

· All schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2010 and 2011.

· At preschool through eighth grade schools: 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the three most recent school years.

We were honored to be selected by State Superintendent Koch to host his press conference here in District 54 at Collins School. This special event was held in the Collins gym today. Students, Tara G. and Nick R., along with Mrs. Tosch, Mrs. Buchanan, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Rosenblum accepted this award on Collins’ behalf. We know that all twelve schools who earned this distinction join Collins in celebrating this award with the hard-working students, staff and parent community. Without this important partnership, we would not be able to achieve academic excellence.

In addition to the press conference, Superintendent Koch and other esteemed guests toured the building and learned about some of the exceptional instruction that takes place here. It was a pleasure to be able to represent District 54. Like Mrs. Rosenblum said in her speech, “it is the relentlessness of students, staff and parents striving to help students reach their goals and achieve academic excellence that makes this all possible.” We are thrilled to be considered one of the state’s outstanding schools.
