Principal’s Message 11/5

Dear Collins Community,

We hope you enjoyed your weekend and your week is off to a great start!

This afternoon our school practiced a Hard Lock Down Drill under the guidance of the Schaumburg Police Department.  This is the drill that students and staff would use if there ever was a safety risk in the school.  Our students and staff did an amazing job!  This drill was an unannounced drill so that we could test our systems and evaluate how we respond.  District 54’s School Resource Officer Detective Scarpa was impressed with our students and staff and how well they did during the drill.

We will be talking as a staff about the drill while looking to identify additional ways to keep everyone safe.  We obviously hope never to need to use these procedures, but it helps all involved to know that they have the skills needed to respond if an emergency should arise.

No School Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 6th
Due to election day, we will have no school tomorrow.

Collins Holiday Breakfast and Vendor Fair
Our Annual Collins Holiday Breakfast is right around the corner.  The date on the pre-order form that was previously sent home was incorrect.  The date of our breakfast and vendor fair is Saturday, December 12018.  Please see the correct form attached below.

Social Emotional Learning
Each month our teachers focus on one or two new themes for social emotional learning.  The theme for November will be Self-Regulation and Calming Techniques.  I have attached the Home School Connection newsletter that will provide more information and ways you can continue this learning at home.

From our Collins Cares Club Members
Dear Families, Our club is currently starting an animal shelter drive. We will be collecting food and items for the Helping Paws Animal Shelter and Almost Home Animal Shelter. On November 1st a flyer was sent home with all the items we will be collecting and the dates we start and end. We hope you find this as something you are willing to support!

Sincerely,
