Principal’s Message 12/21

Dear Collins Community,

Wishing you all a wonderful winter break and a happy and healthy New YearWe hope you will find time to enjoy your family and friends. We have had a super busy and fun week at Collins!  Yesterday our Collins Choir stood outside and sang winter carols to all the students as they arrived, we played an all school game of Name that Holiday Tune and today we are enjoying the comforts of an all school holiday pajama day and afternoon Holiday Sing Along.

Our winter break will begin at 3:00 today, Friday, December 21st.  We will resume school on Monday, January 7th.

Social Investment and Happiness
Winter break is here! We are hoping that these two weeks are a relaxing and stress free time for you and your families.  Page 70 of The Orange Frog Family Reading Guide highlights the importance of social investment.  It states, “The greatest predictor of long-term happiness is social support.” Therefore we are hopeful that many of you are able to take advantage of this time to connect with family and friends.

With this in mind, when we return from break, each student will be sent home with a snowflake template.  Our hope is to fill our happiness wall with pictures/photos depicting a happy time they spent with friends or family over the two week break.  All the snowflakes will be hung on our happiness wall to bring a smile to everyone that passes by.  Please be on the lookout for the snowflake on January 7th.

5Essentials Survey
District 54 will again be participating in the 5Essentials Survey.  We value this information as a tool to help us continue to improve. We will only receive the results from the parent survey if at least 20 percent of our parents take the survey. The 5Essentials survey now includes fourth- through eighth-grade students.  It is our plan to complete the survey at school prior to winter break. If you do not want your child to participate, please contact me. The parent survey will be available online through Feb. 15 2019, at
