Week of 11/26/18

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving Break and a very happy holiday! We return to a full week of school and winter MAP testing. We also see the start of literature circles and vision/hearing screening. Read on below to learn more about our week and what’s going on in Room 208.

During MAP testing, we will be taking a short break from our usual Benchmark Literacy units in favor of literature circles. Students will be in small groups reading novels at their levels. The focus will be on practicing the skills learned this year through critical thinking and group discussions.

We are in the midst of prewriting our persuasive pieces where students are nominating someone or something for an imaginary award. We will begin drafting this week, while focusing on voice and transitions.

Social Studies:

We start Unit 3 on Ancient India this week with a geography challenge to learn more about the geography of the Indian subcontinent and how it influenced early settlement and civilization.

The class starts their FUSE unit with Mrs. McCormack this week. They will be learning about the engineering design process and engaging in hands-on projects throughout the unit.

We focus on personal emotions this week, including the body-mind connection and finding balance to live our best lives.
