Week of 12/3/18

We have a busy week ahead of us, including the MAP math test and Target shopping this Thursday! After raising over $500 through good deeds and service learning, our students are ready to use that money to purchase holiday gifts for those in need, including our friends at Misericordia. Read on below to learn more about our week and what’s going on in Room 208.

During MAP testing, we continue our break from the usual Benchmark Literacy units in favor of literature circles. Students are in small groups reading novels at their levels and discussing with their classmates. Thus far, the groups have been having really great, deep, respectful conversations about their books.

We began drafting our persuasive pieces last week, starting with the introduction. We also learned about persuasive techniques that we can incorporate into our own writing. This week, drafting continues with a focus on transitions and strong support for our theses.

Social Studies:

We continue Unit 3 on Ancient India this week. Last week, we learned about Ashoka and the Mauryan Empire. Now we will be taking our learning from chapter 17 and using it to create billboards explaining Ashoka’s edicts and what goals they achieved in Ancient India.

The class continues their FUSE unit with Mrs. McCormack this week. They are learning about the engineering design process and engaging in hands-on projects throughout the unit.

After learning about mindful movement to refocus the body and mind, we will now learn about mindful stillness to help with self-regulation and calming the body and mind.
