Week of 12/10/18

Only two weeks left before Winter Break! We will be taking our MAP Reading assessment, attending the Collins Holiday Shop, and starting a new literacy unit this week. Read on below to learn more about our week and what’s going on in Room 208.

We begin Benchmark Literacy Unit 5 this week. This unit focuses on nonfiction informational text and will practice the skills of making inferences, citing text evidence, identifying central idea, summarizing, and determining author’s point of view.

We will finish drafting our persuasive pieces this week, including crafting a satisfying conclusion. We will then begin revising with a focus on transitions, voice, and ensuring there is enough detail and evidence to convince audiences.

Social Studies:

We continue Unit 3 on Ancient India this week. After learning all about the Mauryan Empire, we will now begin learning about the Gupta Empire and all its achievements.

The class continues their FUSE unit with Mrs. McCormack this week. They are learning about the engineering design process and engaging in hands-on projects throughout the unit.

This week, we will talk about recognizing the feelings and perspectives of others, as well as understanding how our own actions affect others.
