Collins Elementary School is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School serving about 550 students in preschool through sixth grade. First- through sixth-grade students work in multiage teams, with students from two grade levels in each classroom. Teachers also work in teams to plan and provide instruction. Collins teachers are able to challenge students who are ready to move forward and to provide additional assistance to those who may need more support.

Collins School offers a variety of educational opportunities and support programs for students. The core curriculum is provided to all children with emphasis on those skills needed for life-long learning. Our most important job is to provide the best possible education for our students.

  • We offer a balanced literacy program and encourage student growth in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • Our Everyday Mathematics program builds on fundamental mathematical concepts to help students solve problems and become mathematically literate.
  • Each grade level team at Collins School has a structured, 45-minute session on our schedule referred to as Parallel Block time. Parallel Block time ensures that students receive targeted daily instruction in their area of specific need.

We offer a Parent-Paid Preschool program and have two Early Childhood classrooms. The Floortime program provides service for 3- to 5-year-olds with autism and their families. Collins is a District 54 site for three self-contained classrooms for students with emotional disabilities.

The School Leadership Team – comprised of teachers, parents and support staff – meets to develop the future direction of Collins School. The team solves problems, reviews and analyzes data, and facilitates the implementation of the School Improvement Plan.

Collins School staff and community members take pride in working together in the best interest of the children. This is accomplished due to supportive parents, a strong PTA, a range of extracurricular activities, access to technology and a hard-working staff.
